Klagenfurt is easily reachable by train from many places in Europe. Below you
can find some indications on the length
of the train ride from some cities to
Klagenfurt.
From many places in Europe Klagenfurt is reachable by
day trains, mostly via Munich-Salzburg from the North,
via
Innsbruck from the West, Vienna from the East and Venice from the South.
There is a train from
Munich to Klagenfurt (via Salzburg) about every other hour. Most of the trains
take about 5 hours.
There is one confortable EuroCity Train from Venice which leaves Klagenfurt at
13.09 and takes 3 and half hour
(the train from Venice arrives in Klagenfurt at 16.48.
From Innsbruck to Klagenfurt, there is a train every other hour (chnage in
Schwarzach-St. Veit).
There are also convenient night trains. For example, the direct night train D1199 Friday night from Hamburg-Altona
via
Hannover and Göttingen to Klagenfurt. Another rather convenient night train is
the city night line train from Dortmund
to Salzburg via Düsseldorf, Köln, Mainz and Frankfurt. Very confortable trains
are coming from and going directly to
Roma, Milano, Florence and Ancona.
There are regular train connections from Vienna starting at the South station
(Südbahnhof). There is train about every hour
and a direct train about every
other hour. The direct trains take about 4:10 hours. The first train leaves
Vienna at about 6.50
and the last one at 19.29.
There are regular train connections from Salzburg about every other hour. The
first train leaves Salzburg at 6.40 and
the last at 21.18. The direct train ride from Salzburg to Klagenfurt takes around 3:10
hours.
The train ride from Graz to Klagenfurt (via Bruck/Mur) takes between 2:47 and
3:22 hours time
(depending on the type of train). There is a "fast" train about
every two hours.

There are two main highways in Austria leading to Klagenfurt. The A2
(Südautobahn)
and the A10 (Tauernautobahn).
There exists a sufficient number of parking lots around the university area.

Klagenfurt is a wonderful bike city. Try to rent a
bike at the Uni-Wirt opposite to the University.
But, you may use Public transportation, too.

The travel time from Heiligengeistplatz to the university is about
10 minutes. It is recommendable to have a look at
the bus schedule
in order to avoid waiting times (the schedules of lines
10,11 and 12 can be found below).

You might prefer to use

Make sure to refer to your start point and destination by the prefix
Klagenfurt. For example, use Klagenfurt Flughafen
(resp. Klagenfurt Hauptbahnhof)
if you wish to start at (go to) the airport (resp. the train station) and
Klagenfurt Universität if you wish to start at (go to)
the University.
Many hotels are within walking distance or can be easily reached by bus (and
by by bike) within 15 minutes.
For most of the hotels, the
information given by Eurotours is sufficient.
For some hotels, the way to the university has to be illustrated, or the bus
timetable to be given.
Please find below special instructions for some hotels.
| Hotel Weidenhof is in walking distance to the university.
You may take the direct way, the WörtherSee Süduferstrasse, but this is
not pretty at all (highway with no pedestrian way).
From the hotel, it is the best to go the WörtherSee-Süduferstrasse only 150 m on the left. After the little bridge (on the right, you see a restaurant), turn on the left. You will reach the Lendkanal which you have to follow until you reach the Universitätsstrasse. The way is marked on the plan to the right. |

university. Please use the way indicated in black. You may use the bus stop at Lend, see on the top of the plan to the right. |

Hotel Dermuth
There is a direct bus to the university (see plan below).
You may walk, please follow Kohldorferstrasse to Minumundus, about 20 minutes
walk to the University.

Hotel Gretl in Krumendorf (and other
hotels in Krumpendorf)
You may take a bike to go along the WörtherSee-Promenade. Very nice.
Or you can use the bus, attention, a bus mostly each 60 minutes only.
You have to enter the bus at Gendarmerie Kaserne. A bus walk to (and from)
Minimundus takes only 10 minutes.
